The Easton Hunger Coalition was formed as a grass roots community response to persistent food insecurity in our small city and its surrounding area, which is part of the broader Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. We have engaged in many activities, including supporting existing emergency food system, creating and encouraging nutrition education programs, food recovery and gleaning, food waste reduction and composting programs, advocacy, supporting Buy Fresh, Buy Local, participating in Lehigh Valley Food Policy Council Steering Committee, community engagement around summer meals, providing guest speakers and presentations, etc. However, at this point we are discouraged at the lack of progress in reducing hunger in our midst. Because of this we have moved existing programming to partnering organizations and are focusing on a specific campaign to become a Hunger Free Community by 2023, called Hunger Free in ’23. Our efforts will predominantly be in community organization around this effort
