The Partners for Wichita coalition is led  by St. Paul’s Lutheran Church bringing together congregations and food assistance providers in the community to address hunger and other economic needs of the poor in the Wichita community.   The coalition meets monthly and has initiated a “Filling the Gap” effort this Summer, providing ready to eat meals to hungry children during the two week “gap” between end of the federal summer food program and start date of school in the city, funded entirely by private donations.  The coalition was a partner in the application for the USDA Hunger Free Community 2010 grant cycle, with the lead agency being Catholic Charities Inc. – Diocese of Wichita, who operates one of the largest food pantries in downtown Wichita (47,000 food parcels distributed in 2010).
