Imagine the possibility that every man, woman, girl or boy that needs a meal has it. This reality is within reach through strong programs, effective policy, and the collective efforts of those with a passion to end hunger in the United States, including volunteers. With this ambitious goal in mind, the Alliance to End Hunger is excited to announce the addition of Hunger Volunteer Connection to its programs and services.

Hunger Volunteer Connection is a national initiative and collaboration among six leading organizations with expertise in hunger, volunteerism and civic engagement including the Alliance to End Hunger, Cities of Service, Hunger Free America, Points of Light, Taproot Foundation and VolunteerMatch. The initiative’s vision is to ignite and catapult volunteering by inviting the public to join together in the fight to end hunger through strategic volunteerism, while preparing community and civic organizations to engage more volunteers in deeper ways. The goal is to donate at least 500,000 hours of service in the fight against hunger by September 2018, with half of the hours focused on strategic volunteerism. Since January 2015, this effort has garnered over 180,000 volunteer hours and trained nearly 1,900 volunteer managers on how to build and sustain a world-class volunteer engagement program and facilitate deeper connections with volunteers through pro bono service, youth and family centered opportunities, advocacy, and more.

How can Hunger Volunteer Connection benefit your organization?

With support from founding sponsor, ConAgra Foods Foundation, each collaboration partner provides training, technical assistance and coaching to community organizations across the country.  In addition, the website serves as the public interface for volunteers and organizations to connect. Volunteers can use the website to learn what is means to be a strategic volunteer, search for local or virtual volunteer opportunities, and read success stories on how volunteers are making a difference. Organizations can take advantage of the initiative’s signature tools, customized to address the unique needs of hunger fighting organizations, access a library of resources that will help to bolster their programs, submit opportunities to recruit volunteers and share their success to inspire others.

Alliance to End Hunger is inspired by the potential and power of strategic volunteerism to transform the fight against hunger and looks forward to working closely with its members, donors and the Hunger Free Community Network to expand this effort across the country. Acting together, we can be part of the solution.
