Rebecca Middleton Departing Alliance to End Hunger as Executive Director
June 10, 2020
The following is a note from Dave Miner, Chair of the Board of Directors, on the departure of Rebecca Middleton as Executive Director of the Alliance to End Hunger.
Dear Alliance to End Hunger Members and Friends-
As Chair of the Board of Directors, I wanted to share with you the news that after seven years with the Alliance to End Hunger, Rebecca Middleton will be leaving at the end of June to join WFP USA as their Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy. While we are very sad to see Rebecca go, we are grateful for her leadership and wish her the best in this important new role.
During her time at the Alliance, Rebecca has emerged as a leader within the network of organizations concerned about hunger in our country and worldwide, and our liaison to the U.N. food agencies in Rome. She has built the Alliance into a key player in the anti-hunger space in DC, helping Alliance members to engage more deeply on hunger issues, including engaging in advocacy; building relationships with key partners and strategic coalitions; creating tools for Alliance members, and strengthening the Hunger-Free Community Network.
“Rebecca has shown outstanding leadership,” says David Beckmann, President of the Alliance. “Most recently in light of the COVID-19 crisis she convened the organizations that lead advocacy on domestic hunger issues, and led the development of a letter to Congress about SNAP that was signed by 780 diverse organizations.”
Lisa Davis, Vice Chair of the Board, said, “We are grateful for Rebecca’s thoughtful and strategic guidance these past seven years and look forward to building upon the solid foundation she has built.”
The board is beginning the search for the next leader of the Alliance, and we will communicate more about the process soon.
We are pleased to announce that Asma Lateef, Director of Bread for the World Institute, will serve as Interim Executive Director for the Alliance beginning in July.
The Alliance’s role in building the public and political will has never been more important as hunger has surged in our country and worldwide because of COVID-19. We look forward to the next stage of the Alliance in helping to end hunger, and thank Rebecca for all she has done to bring us this far.
