This report analyzes the the effects food insecurity has on the physical and emotional well-being of poor single mothers in the rural South. The purpose of this policy brief is to (a) estimate the prevalence of food insecurity among singe mothers living in Alabama’s Black Belt, and (b) examine the impact of food insecurity on their physical health and emotional well-being. The study is meant to help make informed decisions about policies and programs designed to reduce food insecurity.
