Statement on President Biden’s Executive Order to Increase Monthly SNAP

January 22, 2021

WASHINGTON (January 22, 2021) — The Alliance to End Hunger Executive Director Eric Mitchell issued the following statement in response to President Biden’s executive order to increase SNAP benefits:

“We applaud the Biden Administration’s swift action to increase SNAP and Pandemic EBT benefits to help the 29 million adults and 8 million children struggling with food insecurity. We are also pleased to see a reconsideration of the Thrifty Food Plan to better reflect the cost of buying healthy, nutritious foods in today’s economy. These actions will go a long way to address the significant hunger crisis in America, where communities of color have been disproportionately hit by the twin pandemics of hunger and COVID-19.

The Alliance stands ready to work with the new administration and congress as it continues efforts to address hunger relief and nutrition during the pandemic.”
