Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH) is a global higher education movement focused on educating, mobilizing and organizing students, faculty and administrators in the war against hunger. The innovative multi-disciplinary model was launched by Auburn University in 2004 in partnership with the UN World Food Programme (WFP). Throughout its 10 year history, the movement has involved nearly 300 universities worldwide in hunger awareness and consciousness-raising; advocacy; action; and academic initiatives. Much of the success of the UFWH movement can be attributed to strategic partnerships with a large number of multi-sector organizations, peer institutions, and individuals that are members of the Alliance and contribute so effectively and passionately to its ever-growing influence as a leading change agent in the fight to end hunger. In the past decade UFWH collaborations involving members of the Alliance have included: Elanco Animal Health; YUM!Brands; Campus Kitchens Project; Farmers Feeding the World (HungerU); National Farmers Union; Outreach, Inc.; RESULTS; Share Our Strength; Stop Hunger Now; World Food Programme USA; Bread for the World; Sodexo Foundation; George Washington University; and Iowa State University Seed Science Center. In addition several individuals, in particular, have made significant contributions including Ambassador Tony Hall; Rev. David Beckmann; David Lambert; Taylor Pursell; and Rick McNary. On behalf of UFWH, Dean June Henton and Harriet Giles, co-founders of UFWH, would like to extend our sincerest thanks and deepest gratitude for the role the Alliance and those specifically named above have played in recruiting new UFWH members; providing support for and participating in annual summits and other UFWH-related presentations; initiating and sponsoring state-wide university hunger dialogues; and championing the movement through word of mouth, as well as your various media platforms.
