WASHINGTON (February 12, 2026) The Alliance to End Hunger welcomes the introduction of the 21st Century WIC Act in the United States Senate. The legislation, co-sponsored by Senators Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), would modernize WIC and reduce barriers for entry by making certain online processes permanent.
Over 6.7 million mothers and children rely on food and nutrition support through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). The legislation follows a previous program that allows families to complete more paperwork online, making nutrition benefits and support more widely accessible for families eligible for the program. WIC helps children get a healthy start in life and attain their highest potential.
The 21st Century WIC Act is the companion bill for the MODERN WIC Act in the U.S. House of Representatives, co-sponsored by Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR).
Eric Mitchell, president of the Alliance to End Hunger, stated: “Families across the country are working hard to make ends meet, with young mothers and caregivers juggling long hours at work, childcare, and the daily stresses of life. By modernizing the WIC program, we can ensure moms are given the support they need to care for themselves and their children.”
