Alliance to End Hunger Applauds Passage of FY26 State & Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill in House, Urges Senate Action

WASHINGTON (January 14, 2026) The Alliance to End Hunger thanks the U.S. House of Representatives  for their passage of a robust FY26 National Security, State Department & Related Programs appropriations bill to address multiple ongoing food security crises around the world. The Alliance urges the Senate to follow suit and pass the bill quickly.

It is estimated that 318 million people around the world face acute hunger, with 41 million facing emergency levels of hunger. Famine has been declared in Gaza and parts of Sudan, while sixteen hunger hotspots, including Haiti, Mali, and Yemen, remain at high risk. Given these global emergencies, the U.S. has an opportunity to build its reputation as a global leader by ensuring hungry people are fed and children aren’t starving.

Recognizing the significant bipartisan compromise involved in agreeing on these funding amounts, we appreciate the bipartisan and bicameral support for these programs in the bill, which includes the following priorities of the Alliance to End Hunger:

  • $165 million for Nutrition.
  • $720 million for implementation of the Global Food Security Strategy through Feed the Future.
  • $72 million for Feed the Future Innovation Labs.
  • $300 million for American-made Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF).

The bill also includes $100 million to be used to stand up the Foundation for International Food Security (FIFS), which would be created by legislation sponsored by Sens. Graham and Coons, if that legislation is passed into law by the end of 2026.

The Alliance urges the Senate to pass the SFOPS bill without delay. We look forward to continuing to work closely with House and Senate appropriators and leadership as we ensure policies and programs that save lives and improve livelihoods around the world remain a priority.
