Alliance to End Hunger Praises News of Ceasefire in Gaza, Urges Immediate Hostage Release and Humanitarian Surge

WASHINGTON (January 18, 2025) The Alliance to End Hunger is deeply encouraged by the news of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Once implemented, the deal would bring home remaining Israeli hostages that were kidnapped on October 7, 2023, by Hamas, and end 15 months of war in the Gaza Strip that has created a humanitarian and food security crisis in the region.

With the arrival of a ceasefire agreement, the Alliance urges quick and immediate release of remaining hostages in Gaza, and a humanitarian surge to the civilian population, including emergency food and nutrition relief for those facing severe famine conditions.

“We are heartened by this news of a ceasefire and possible path towards stability,” stated Eric Mitchell, president of the Alliance to End Hunger.  We know that this process will be long and difficult.  But we will continue to have cautious optimism about the developments in the region and will work with our members and partners to ensure nobody is left hungry and malnourished.”
