Hosted by the Alliance to End Hunger, the goals of the 2020 Hunger Free Communities Virtual Summit are to understand the changing landscape of hunger and build a resilient post-pandemic America.
We will accomplish this by:
- Highlighting effective policies and methods for reducing community food insecurity
- Sharing best practices and resources
- Demonstrating effective multi-sector collaborations
- Building skills among practitioners
The summit will run from 12:00 – 5:30PM ET
on Wednesday November 18th and Thursday November 19th.
Registration is FREE.
The Alliance formally launched the Hunger Free Communities Network™ initiative in 2010, responding to the need of community leaders across the country to learn best practices for increasing local food security. Hunger Free Community coalitions are multi-sector partnerships committed to ending hunger in their localities by bringing together a broad range of community stakeholders to unite behind a common vision and strategy. We currently partner with 74 groups in 34 states.
The annual summit is our seminal event which celebrates the accomplishments of this network while exploring best practices. It typically attracts our community partners, national partners, government agency representatives, and foundation officials. Traditionally this is an in-person event held in different locations around the country. However, this year to maintain the health and safety of our summit participants we will hold a virtual summit. We look forward to engaging at least 500 participants in this free event and will live-stream keynote talks on multiple platforms.
This year, the Hunger Free Communities Network has done a tremendous job of responding to the increase in hunger related to the COVID-19 pandemic, from helping to expand school food distributions, developing new social distancing program models, advising local governments on implementation of Pandemic EBT to educating community members about available resources. The summit will highlight how Alliance stakeholders are responding to COVID-19, as well as breakout sessions on a variety of topics including using technology to improve food access, LGBTQ hunger, racial equity, and advancing food security in healthcare.
