Hunger Free Communities

Hunger Free Community (HFC) initiatives are broad-based, multi-sector coalitions that are committed to ending hunger in their communities. Hunger free initiatives across the country range in scale, from small towns and counties to major metropolitan areas and states.  Some are led by governors, mayors, or members of Congress, while others are entirely volunteer driven.  At their core, these initiatives are formed around the belief that to end hunger at the community level, a broad range of community stakeholders must unite behind a common vision and strategy.

National Alliance Partnership Program

The National Alliance Partnership Program is an effort by the Alliance to provide capacity building for civil society coalitions (National Alliances) in seven developing countries: Ghana, Guatemala, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. The Partnership Program is currently supported by a grant by the U.S. Agency for International Development under the U.S. Government’s Feed the Future initiative.

The Partnership Program was originally made possible by a grant from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). In October 2013, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded the Alliance a three-year, $3 million grant to continue and expand its work.

The Alliance elevates hunger on the national agenda by encouraging political leaders to advocate on behalf of poor and hungry people. Alliance members are working together to urge some of the most influential anti-hunger leaders in Congress to use their political power to influence policy on both the national and international level.

The Alliance’s mission is to engage diverse institutions to build the public and political will to end hunger at home and abroad; and the 2013-2018 Strategic Plan highlights advocacy as an essential pillar to the Alliance’s work.
