WASHINGTON (July 15, 2024) Jim Morris, a long-time supporter, visionary, honorary co-chair, and friend of the Alliance to End Hunger passed away on Friday, July 12 at the age of 81. Morris was a key leader in the early years of the Alliance, providing insights from his years of business and humanitarian experience in Indiana and beyond. The Alliance is deeply saddened by his passing and sends its heartfelt condolences to his family and all the community members he’s touched over his career.
Morris is well-known for his time as president and executive vice president of Pacers Sports and Entertainment, as well as his contributions to local philanthropic endeavors; but he was also a huge presence in the national and global food security and humanitarian scene. He served as executive director of the World Food Program from 2002-2007, where he was met with incredible food security challenges including the war in Iraq and the infamous Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004. In addition to his position as an honorary co-chair of the Alliance, he held board positions with UNICEF, the American Red Cross, and other charitable organizations.
“Jim Morris was a giant in the humanitarian and food security community,” states Alliance to End Hunger president Eric Mitchell. “We will miss him dearly, but his contributions to the Alliance, our nation, and around the world will be felt for years to come. Our sincere condolences go out to the Morris family and everyone who had the opportunity to work with this great man,”
