The Hunger Free Coalition started as a collaboration between Harvest for the Hungry, INC., Save the Children, and Baylor University Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty. A coalition coordinator was funded through a grant from Save the Children. The coalition was formed in August of 2024. The coalition is composed of a multisectoral members with the goal of the food insecure of Brazoria County to become food secure through collaboration, coordination of services, communication of factors affecting food security, and equitable outcomes for those experiencing food insecurity. The mission of the Hunger Free Coalition of Brazoria County is to help the food insecure of Brazoria County become food secure through greater access and consumption of healthy foods. We are currently working on an Action Strategy to help children currently on the school backpack program to receive enough “ready to eat” food to cover extended school breaks when there is no access to free breakfast and lunch.
