The mission of WHEAT, as an Arizona-based nonprofit anti-hunger organization, is to educate, advocate, motivate and empower individuals to action in the fight against hunger.
WHEAT works in collaboration with faith communities, faith based organizations, social service and government agencies and educational institutions to provide the tools of awareness, training and opportunities for service focused on ending hunger through resolution of the root causes of hunger and poverty.
WHEAT also collaborates and actively participates in other coalitions, including the Arizona Partnership to End Childhood Hunger and the Arizona Department of Economic Security’s Hunger Council.
Key projects: Outreach for Statewide Summer Food Service Programs; SNAP Outreach within Faith Communities; Advocacy at the statewide and national levels on hunger issues; Nutrition Education programming at Food Sites; SNAP Outreach through Farmers’ Markets; Training & Mentoring Programs for the Unemployed and Underemployed.
