WASHINGTON (April 10, 2025) The following statement can be attributed to Eric Mitchell, President of the Alliance to End Hunger.
“Early this morning, the House of Representatives adopted the Senate’s budget framework in the latest step towards final budget legislation. A key to passing the framework was a promise to legislate severe cuts of at least $1.5 trillion to U.S. government spending, with an eye towards important programs supporting food and nutrition security.
Given the continued cancellation of global aid and development, as well as significant rollbacks in funding for domestic food procurement and distribution programs, it is clear that we have a long road ahead to make food and nutrition security a high priority in Congress and in the Administration.
The Alliance to End Hunger is committed to safeguarding federal food and nutrition programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that are essential for millions of families to support their lives and livelihoods. As the budget process proceeds, we will continue to work with Congress to ensure the people these programs serve are protected from misguided cuts made solely for the purpose of slashing spending.”
