WASHINGTON (September 30, 2023) The following statement is attributed to Eric Mitchell, Executive Director of the Alliance to End Hunger.
“On behalf of the Alliance to End Hunger we thank members of the House of Representatives and Senate for their bipartisan efforts to avert a government shutdown. Thanks to their efforts, millions of people facing food insecurity across the country will find some relief from what could have been devastating cuts to benefits and services. While temporarily avoiding a shutdown is welcome news, there is tremendous work yet to be done. Without fully appropriated programs for the 2024 fiscal year, countless families will continue to live in uncertainty as they work to ensure they can put food on their tables. Further, the world continues to face an unprecedented food crisis exacerbated by conflict, climate shocks, and political and economic uncertainties. The Alliance looks forward to working with leaders on Capitol Hill and in the Administration to ensure hunger and malnutrition are priorities in continuing budget negotiations.”
